RAJSHAHI, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS)- Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof. Md Faridul Islam today said Rabindra Sangeet touches upon human emotions and the subtlety of nature while Nazrul Sangeet has inspired independent, revolutionary and social reformist spirit, and these two musical genres are shining jewels of our cultural heritage."
"The diversity of lyrics, melody and rhythm in their songs is a source of inspiration not only artistically, but also mentally, socially and morally," he added.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a national seminar titled 'The Musical Diversity of Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Sangeet' organized by the Department of Music at the University of Rajshahi (RU).
The inaugural ceremony of the seminar was held at 10 am today at the Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji Building, where Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Faridul Islam was present as the chief guest.
Special guests were Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Md. Abdul Alim, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Mamunur Rashid, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Mohammad Belal Hossain.
The event was presided over by Professor Sanjida Moid, Chairperson of the Department of Music, and Rezauddin Stalin, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, was present as the keynote speaker at the seminar.
In addition to teachers, students and researchers of the department, teachers, researchers and music lovers from other departments were present at the inaugural ceremony of the seminar.
The program was conducted by Dr. Sonia Sharmin Khan, a teacher of the department.
Before the inaugural ceremony, the event began with the hoisting of the national flag and the university flag in the premises in front of the Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji Building.
It has been scheduled that on the first day of this two-day seminar, today Wednesday, 9 papers will be presented in 2 academic sessions and on the second day, Thursday, 16 papers will be presented in 4 academic sessions.
In addition to the host RU, teachers, researchers and others from other universities and relevant institutions of the country are participating in the seminar.
